Flaky Cheese Sticks

This is just a spontaneous creation that I made with the leftover pie crust from my peach pie. It turned out so good though that I wanted to share! These cheese sticks are perfectly light, cheesy and flaky with long thin layers of dough (see photo ➡️). So good!!!

I usually keep pie dough in my freezer, so it’s easy for me to make this. But I understand most people don’t have homemade pie dough in their freezers… If you don’t have it and don’t want to make it from scratch, you can use Pillsbury’s pie crust too. This is really easy and so good! Perfect party snacks!

Make about 30 sticks

Ingredients

  • 1 pie crust (my recipe makes 2 pie crusts, so you can either cut in half or make as is and keep half in the freezer for future use.)

  • egg wash (1 egg yolk and 1 tbsp milk or water)

  • 1/3~1/2C Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese (or parmesan), shredded

  • Kosher salt

  • Black pepper - optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven for 375 degrees F. Roll out a pie crust and cut into about 6x1 inch sticks and place them on a baking sheet (with silicone mat).

2. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle cheese as much or as little you want, then sprinkle salt very lightly.

3. Bake for 20~25 minutes, or until the sticks are golden and cheese is crispy. Cool on a rack.
